About This Policy

This Cookie Policy explains how Pensatorium, operated by Tiago Marques (an individual based in Portugal), uses cookies and similar technologies on the Pensatorium web application. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile) when you visit a website. They help websites remember your preferences, provide authentication, and improve your browsing experience.

How We Use Cookies

Pensatorium uses only strictly necessary cookies — the ones required to sign you in and to remember the cookie choice you have made. We do not use tracking, advertising, or profiling cookies.

This policy applies to the Pensatorium web app. The Pensatorium mobile app does not use HTTP cookies; session tokens are stored in your device's secure storage (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore).

Types of Cookies We Use

1. Strictly Necessary Cookies

REQUIRED

These cookies are essential for the application to function and cannot be disabled. They are set in response to actions you take, such as signing in or recording your cookie choice.

Legal Basis: These cookies are strictly necessary to deliver the service you requested (GDPR Article 6(1)(b); ePrivacy Directive Art. 5(3) exemption for strictly necessary cookies).

2. Functional Cookies

NOT USED

Pensatorium does not currently set functional cookies. User preferences such as theme (light/dark mode) are stored in your browser's local storage (not cookies) and are never transmitted to our servers.

3. Analytics Cookies

NOT USED

Pensatorium does not set analytics cookies.

Vercel Analytics (cookieless): Our web app uses Vercel Analytics, which collects aggregated page-view and referrer data without setting cookies and without identifying individual users. Because no information is stored on your device, no consent is required under GDPR / ePrivacy for this processing. See Vercel's analytics privacy notice.

4. Marketing Cookies

NOT USED

Pensatorium does not use marketing, advertising, or cross-site tracking cookies. We do not display third-party advertisements and do not sell or share personal data for cross-context behavioral advertising.

If we introduce optional cookies in the future (for example, an opt-in analytics tool), we will update this policy and request your consent before setting them.

Managing Cookies

Cookie Notice

On your first visit to Pensatorium, we show a short cookie notice explaining that only strictly necessary cookies are used. Acknowledging the notice does not opt you in to any tracking — it simply records that you have seen it so we don't show it again.

Via Browser Settings

You can also control cookies through your browser settings:

Warning: Blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from logging in and using Pensatorium.

Third-Party Cookies

Pensatorium uses Clerk for authentication, which may set third-party cookies from the following domains:

  • clerk.com - Authentication service
  • *.clerk.accounts.dev - User account management

These cookies are strictly necessary for authentication and cannot be disabled if you want to use Pensatorium. For more information, see Clerk's Cookie Documentation.

Consent Records

When you acknowledge our cookie notice, we record that event server-side (timestamp, IP address, and user-agent string) as evidence that the notice was shown and acknowledged. These records are retained for 2 years and are handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Data Protection and Privacy

Cookies may contain personal data such as authentication tokens and user identifiers. We protect this data in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable data protection laws (GDPR, ePrivacy Directive).

California residents may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), including the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. Pensatorium does not sell or share personal data for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Updates to This Policy

We may update this cookie policy from time to time to reflect changes in technology, legislation, or our practices. Material changes will be announced through the Service or by email at least 14 days before they take effect. We will request your consent again if required by law.
